Urbandale Public Library/Teen Volunteers

Want to have fun while helping the library? Want to gain valuable work experience or earn volunteer hours for the Silver Cord Program?

Teens ages 12-17 can volunteer at the Urbandale Public Library this Summmer 2024! Applications are due no later than Sunday, May 5th by Library close (6:00 PM) at the front desk, or via e-mail to jstolz@urbandale.org.

*Please note: We are just seeking volunteers ages 12-17 ONLY. We are unable to accept volunteers 11 years old or younger. Adults (18+) looking for volunteer opportunities can apply here.

What we’ll ask of you:

  • You’ll help at youth events, prep crafts and activities, sanitize toys and materials, and assist with other projects.
  • Good attitudes are a must! Not every minute will be fun for you, but you’ll be making summer more fun for library visitors!
  • We will work around your other summer commitments and plans if you provide an accurate list of times you are available. However, if you have very narrow availability, it may be difficult for us to work you into the volunteer schedule.
  • All volunteers must complete an application. Parents/ guardians and applicants must sign the application before volunteers can begin volunteering.
  • Teens will be asked to volunteer at least 12 hours total between June and July. Shifts are typically somewhere between 1 to 3 hours, and anywhere from 1-3 shifts per week is typical. How many shifts per week you are scheduled for depends on your availability and your ability to complete tasks with a positive attitude.
  • Teens must register for text and/or email notifications through Remind (https://www.remind.com/join/beack7) to learn about upcoming shifts and communicate with library staff. Parents are encouraged to sign up to receive notifications as well.
  • We will send out a Google Form with available shifts. You choose the ones you want to work.
  • Teens must read the Teen Volunteer Duties and Expectations document, and agree to uphold them to the best of their abilities.
  • All new volunteers will be contacted via e-mail to arrange a time for a short phone interview and must complete the phone interview before orientation.

Orientation Sessions:

ALL teen volunteers (including returning volunteers) must attend one training session before you are able to volunteer. Choose to attend either Saturday, May 18th at 1:00 PM or Wednesday, May 22nd at 5:00 PM. Training will last 45 minutes to an hour.
