Plug-in/Wireless Internet Access DHCP Procedure(Windows 2000)

  1. Select “Start” , “Settings”
  2. Select “Network and Dial-up Connections”
  3. Select “Local Area Connections Icon”
  4. Click on “Properties”
  5. Highlight “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”
  6. Click on “Properties”
  7. Click on “Obtain an IP address automatically”
  8. Click on “Obtain DNS server address automatically”
  9. Click on OK and close all windows by clicking OK
  10. The IP address may need to be changed if one is already retained on your computer. (see directions below)
  11. Restart the computer and access the Internet.

To release and renew IP addresses:
You must have administrative rights to your computer to release or renew your IP address.
  1. Go to a command prompt. (click “start” and choose “run”)
  2. In the “open” line, type “command”. A black box will open with a command prompt inside it.
  3. At the command prompt,     type:      Ipconfig /release -A notice should say the address has been released.
  4. At the command prompt,     type:       Ipconfig /renew

After a brief time, you should be notified that a new IP number is associated with your NIC card and you should be able to access the network.
