People and pets came out to the Urbandale Library on Thursday, June 11th to enjoy a beautiful spring day and gather with fellow pet enthusiasts. Over 50 pets were judged and won various ribbons for categories such as “softest coat”, “best dressed”, and many more. Large and small dogs made up the largest groups but a few cats came out, along with some guinea pigs, a chinchilla, a rat, a few frogs and even some tadpoles made the trip. Spectators and participants were entertained during the Pet Tricks Showcase where 14 pets showed off their special talents including a dancing hula dog, a cat that could sit on command, and a dog that played dead. Those in attendance were also given access to information on pet health and diet, pet licensing, and were able to learn more about the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. A photographer was on hand as well to take quality portraits of pets with their owners for a small donation benefiting the Urbandale Library Foundation and the Animal Rescue League. The Pet Show was held in the newly established Urbandale Memorial Tree Park just south of the Library. With almost 250 people attending this year, you can be assured the Urbandale Library Pet Show will be back again next spring! |
