Art UP Close Program
The Urbandale Public Library Art UP Close program celebrates the work of local artists and encourages the community to experience the arts through engaging opportunities. The program sponsors local artists conducting informative presentations and hands-on workshops throughout our community. The goal is to develop and sustain the public’s awareness and interest in the arts, cultivating a true appreciation for all forms of human expression. Art UP Close makes our community a dynamic place to live, work, and visit!
Established with support from Bravo Greater Des Moines, Art UP Close offers two, four-month paid sponsorships to visual, literary, performing, and mixed media artists
The current Art UP Close Artist is Des Moines artist James A. Osborn, whose residency with the Library will go from August through November. His works will be on exhibit in the Library’s art gallery October 1 – November 1. Click here to read his biography and artist statement. View his portfolio here.
Artists eager to use their talents to nurture and grow the community’s artistic spirit are invited to apply. You must be:
- able to develop and facilitate up to four presentation and/or workshops held at the Library or other locations and to participate in an artist reception held after each presentation
- willing to exhibit work, contingent on art form, in the Library’s Art Gallery
- willing to engage with individuals of all ages
- at least 18 years of age
