Update – 03/16/20

The Urbandale Public Library will close at 5:00 p.m. today (3/16/20), and will remain closed until April 13.

Your health and safety is our most important priority. At this time, we believe closing our facility to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus is in the best interest of our community and staff.

Please note:

We have extended the due dates on all items to April 13. Please do not return materials until we have re-opened. No library fines will accrue while the library is closed.

Expiring library cards have been renewed. If you receive a notice that your library card is expiring while we are closed, please disregard it.

You will be unable to place holds on items until April 13.  We are working to find a way to get the items currently on our hold shelf to patrons; more details to come at later date.

We understand this decision will have an impact on our patrons and the community. Our staff is working hard to identify ways we can continue to offer limited services while our building is closed – and in the face of this changing situation. Our staff will be available by phone to answer your questions; however, hours of availability may vary.

As always, you can use the library from home!  We offer a wide range of digital resources, including books, audiobooks, music, magazines and movies. Manage your account and download books, magazines, and more at www.urbandalelibrary.org.

If you need help using our digital tools, call us at 515-278-3945 or email library@urbandale.org.

The Library and the City of Urbandale will continue to monitor this situation and will follow any additional safety information from local, state, and national health officials. We will share updates through our patron emails, social media channels, and our website.

03/13/20 The Library is working closely with the City of Urbandale to follow updates and directions provided by the Polk County Health Department, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control regarding safe practices to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).  The safety of our patrons, staff, and the community is our top priority.

You are important to us – and we know the library is important to you!  We plan to keep the library open and offer as many services and resources we can safely provide. We are also implementing some new precautionary measures, including removing toys, games, and other hard-to-clean items from the children’s play area, and increasing our cleaning and sanitizing efforts around the building.  In addition, starting Saturday, March 14, we are canceling all library programs and events until Tuesday, March 31.  All meeting room bookings will remain in place, unless canceled by the meeting organizer.

If you feel uncertain about visiting our building in person, you can return items to the book returns on the north side of our building and outside Webster Elementary School (12955 Aurora).  If you have questions about your account or want to renew items over the phone, please call us at 515-278-3945.  And please don’t forget, you can also use the library from home!  Manage your account and download books, magazines, and more at www.urbandalelibrary.org.
