Urbandale Public Library/Des Moines Weavers & Spinners Guild

The Des Moines Weavers and Spinners Guild was founded in September 1945 to preserve and nurture the skills of hand weaving, spinning, felting and dyeing.  For 75 years, the members of the Guild have actively educated themselves and the public through presentations, demonstrations, and workshops.  Membership is open to anyone interested in the fiber arts.  After moving to Franklin Jr. High at 4801 Franklin in Des Moines in the fall of 2019, we are able to offer beginning and advanced level classes in all forms of weaving, spinning and dyeing.  We welcome new fiber enthusiasts to contact us about learning opportunities or to join the Guild!

The Arts UP Close Residency

The Des Moines Weavers and Spinners Guild residency at the Urbandale Public Library will take place September 1 – 30, 2020. More details on presentations and workshops offered during the residency period will be available at a later date.

Artist Statement

Spinning, weaving and felting are fiber arts accessible to anyone.  By learning a few simple skills, all ages can use their imagination to create fun, hands on projects.  Through classes and demonstrations, we look forward to helping participants find their own unique fiber talent!
