The Library offers several programs especially for teen audiences!  Teen events are intended for students ages 12-17.  Members of our Teen Advisory Group provide feedback and make recommendations on our programming to ensure our offering meets the unique needs and interests of their peers.

Volunteer Opportunities

Teens and Tweens: Summer Volunteers Wanted!  Applications are due May 10, 2019 at 5:00 PM.

Is this you?

  • I will be 12-17 years old on June 1, 2019.
  • I like working with and talking to other people.
  • I am responsible, dependable, and have transportation to get to/from the library.
  • I can work at least 2 hours most weeks in June and July.

If yes, you may be a great fit!  Teen volunteers assist with a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Signing children up for Summer Reading
  • Passing out prizes
  • Assisting with special events
  • Preparing crafts and activities
  • Keeping the children’s area clean and orderly

and more!

The Library’s summer reading program just can’t happen without our trusty team of teen volunteers!

How do I sign up?


  1. New and returning summer reading volunteers will be asked to complete an application.  A parent/guardian must sign the application.
  2. Return the completed application by May 10, 2019 at 5:00 PM via email to Jacque at [email protected]  OR  bring it to the Urbandale Public Library in an envelope marked “Teen Volunteer Application.”
  3. Complete a brief phone interview.
  4. Attend volunteer training on May 10 at 10:30 AM OR May 16 at 7:00 PM.


Please Note

  • Volunteers ages 16 + will be required to undergo a background check.  Please include the completed background check form with your volunteer application.
  • A parent or guardian must sign all forms before you can begin volunteering.
  • We communicate information about schedules through the Remind messaging platform.  If you are selected to volunteer, you’ll need to sign up for Remind email or text notifications.  Parents may choose to receive notifications as well.
  • We may have more applicants than available volunteer slots.  If you aren’t selected this year, please try again next summer!
