RBdigital and OverDrive Merge
RBdigital has been aquired by OverDrive. The Urbandale Public Library, along with other public libraries across the state, will move our digital ebooks and audiobooks from RBdigital to our OverDrive collection on Wednesday, September 9.
(Libby is the preferred app by OverDrive. Questions about the difference between using Libby versus OverDrive? Check out this FAQ page.)
Transitioning from RBdigital:
If you currently have a book checked out in the RBdigital app, it will be available through the remainder of the lending period, so you can finish your title without disruption or risk of losing your place in the book.
Holds will not be moved, but you may export your Transaction History from the RBdigital website by accessing My Account > Profiles. You can place holds on those titles again in Libby.
For the time being, you can continue to use the RBdigital app to access magazines through ZINIO.
Moving to Libby:
Please note: The Urbandale Public Library’s Libby and OverDrive collections can only be accessed by Urbandale and rural Polk County Residents. Non-Residents will have to go through their home library to access digital material.
If you have already been enjoying the Libby app with us, there will be no change. You may notice even more great titles available for you to borrow!
For our Urbandale and rural Polk County residents who have not yet tried Libby, click here to download the app today. All you need to get started is your library card number and password. The Libby app is easy to use and will guide you through the setup process and get you connected to our library in just a few minutes. You can find in-app support, or visit the Help site or Libby Academy within the app for assistance.
If you have questions or need help accessing digital resources, please call the library at (515) 278-3945 option 1.
Q & A
Why is this change happening?
Most Iowa public libraries are part of an ebook, audiobook, and streaming video buying consortium that provides downloadable titles through a company called OverDrive. Libraries pay an annual fee to be part of this consortium and the consortium agreement requires community members to use their local libraries to access digital content from OverDrive.
Recently, OverDrive acquired RBdigital, and RBdigital’s collection will now become part of the resources available through your local library’s OverDrive collection.
What does this mean if I’m not an Urbandale or rural Polk County resident?
While you will no longer be able to access RBdigital resources using your Urbandale Public Library card, you can still access most services at our library. You can check out physical books and more with curbside pickup, do online research using our databases, access WiFi from our parking lot and city campus, and attend our virtual programs. When we reopen our doors, you will still be able to use our internet computers and meeting/study rooms as well. But now, you will need to go through your home library to access digital books and audiobooks.
