Join us Mondays in March and share a story with Miss Jacque! This interactive storytime will give us a chance to see our friends, talk together, and read a few stories.   

Virtual Zoo to You: African Animals

Join us for a virtual visit to the African Loop of the Blank Park Zoo! We’ll visit animals including giraffes and rhinos in their winter homes, and may even be able to see Raza, the new giraffe calf born in January!

Teen Battle of the Brains: Statewide Smackdown

Join us for the third Teen Battle of the Brains: Statewide Smackdown!

Show off your smarts and compete, via Zoom, against teens from other libraries in Iowa! There will be five rounds of questions on topics ranging from pop culture to more serious studies, crafted with teens in mind. Don’t hide that big brain! Your hobby, fandom, or celebrity crush might just give your team the edge.

Elementary School Storytime with Iowa Author Jill Esbaum

Do you like reading, and making up your own stories? Come meet prolific Iowa author Jill Esbaum! She’ll read us one of her many published picture books, a story about a loyal lost pup. 

Jill will talk with us and answer questions about writing a picture book, or doing research on animals for one of her amazing nonfiction books, published by National Geographic

Snake Science with Dallas County Conservation

  • Target Audience: Ages 7-12. Siblings are welcome to observe, but our presenter has specifically noted that this program is best suited for those in 2nd grade and up.

Join us for a highly interactive workshop about snakes, taught by Iowa author and Dallas County Naturalist, Cindy Blobaum. She literally wrote the book on snakes! 

The program will include information about central Iowa snakes and snakes all over the world, three hands-on activities, Q & A, and a “visit” from a live education snake!

Combustion! with the Grout Museum

  • Target Audience: Ages 6-14 

Fire is a chemical reaction that scientists call combustion! Be amazed by this explosive demonstration while watching astonishing effects like flash powder, flash paper and exploding hydrogen balloons. Fire safety is stressed throughout, and you’ll learn more about key STEM concepts including fire, oxygen, temperature, fuel and explosions. 

Fantastic Friday Craft Kits-to-Go!

  • Fridays in March, Available in the Children’s Section of the Library during Grab ‘n Go Service (click here for current service hours) No registration, while supplies last.
  • Recommended for Preschool and up

Each Friday in March we will provide a different fun, hands-on, craft project or activity to take home and enjoy! 

Please note: These are Craft ‘Kits-to-Go’ and take home because we do not currently have seating and space for doing crafts in the library at this time. We ask that you do not take more than one craft kit per child in your household each week.
