Welcome to Our New Director!
The Urbandale Public Library and its Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that Nicholas Janning has been selected as the library’s new director.
Janning comes to Urbandale from the Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library where he has served in multiple roles since 2013, most recently as Public Services Manager. He received Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Political Science from Drake University and dual graduate degrees in Library Science and Information Science from Indiana University. He is a member of the American Library Association, the Iowa Library Association, and the Association for Information Science and Technology. Janning has presented at various professional conferences on the topics of public library makerspaces, virtual reality programs for library patrons, and library STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) workshops for youth.
“I’m thrilled to become part of the Urbandale Public Library and the City of Urbandale. Every time l have been a visitor of the Urbandale Public Library I have been impressed by the friendly staff and the beautiful facility,” said Janning. “Urbandale is an exciting, dynamic city and it will be a delight to build relationships with the community. I look forward to working with the staff and Board of Trustees to build on the library’s outstanding service to the citizens of Urbandale. The Urbandale Public Library has a reputation for excellent staff and services and I’m looking forward to continuing that tradition.”
Janning’s hiring was the result of a nationwide search launched in July following the retirement of former library director Julie Wells. Janning will begin his new role on Tuesday, November 3.
