The Urbandale Public Library is happy to offer a range of interactive virtual and in-person* programs!

*No in-person, outdoor events during adverse weather. You can watch for cancellations due to weather by checking our Facebook, Twitter, or our online calendar the day of the event.

Special Events for Kids

Overall Buddies Music

  • Wednesday, July 21, 10:00 AM
  • Target age: 1-7, siblings welcome! 
  • Location: Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park, a 2-minute walk South of the Library. 

Don’t miss this fun, highly interactive performance from Lori Lynn Ahrends, an early childhood specialist with a master’s degree in Elementary Education! We will sing, dance, clap, stomp, and hug our way through music! Lori’s songs have plenty of actions and sign language added for extra fun and to support children’s early literacy development.

Mikayla Oz Magic Show

  • Friday, July 30, 10:00 AM
  • Target Audience: Aimed at ages 3 +, families welcome!
  • Location: Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park, a 2-minute walk South of the Library. 

Enjoy a funny, interactive magic show with local sensation Mikayla Oz! Featuring an appearance by Bubbles, a real, highly trained magic bird! This 40-minute magic show is fun and excitement for the whole family.

Weekly Programs for Kids

Join us each week for a variety of programs and events!

Monday Hands-On Play

  • Mondays, 2:30 – 4:00 PM
  • Target age: 1-7, siblings welcome!
  • Location: Outside, front of the Library on the North end.

Get a little messy, then leave it at the library! Drop by any time during the program for messy play at your own pace. We’ll get into paint, water beads, and more.

Remember to bring an art shirt or dress for a mess!

STEAM Stop-In

  • Tuesdays, 4:30 – 6:00 PM or
  • Thursdays, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
  • Saturday, July 10, 9:30 – 11:00 AM
  • Target age: 6-12, siblings welcome!
  • Location: Outside, front of the Library on the North end.

Starting the second week of June, join us for cool hands on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities. Dissect an owl pellet, engineer towers, make shimmering nebula art, and more! Stop in anytime during the program to enjoy art and experiments at your own pace. (STEAM activities will be the same both days of each week.)

Zoom Rise and Shine

  • Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM (No Rise & Shine July 21- attend Overall Buddies Music In-Person that day instead!)
  • Recommended for ages 2-7, siblings welcome!
  • Location: Zoom

Join Miss Jacque for music, movement, and FUN! We’ll do about 20 minutes of singing, dancing, rhyming, and chanting, with a story for cool-down time.

Fantastic Friday Craft Kits-to-Go!

  • Every Friday, Available in the Youth Section of the Library No registration, while supplies last.
  • Recommended for Preschool and up. We ask that you do not take more than one craft kit per child in your household each week. 

Each Friday we will provide a different fun, hands-on, craft project or activity to take home and enjoy!
