The Library offers a variety of programs and special events just for teens! Events are for ages 12-17, unless otherwise noted.

Teen Study Skills & Snack Break!

Target Audience: Ages 13-18 only.
Pick up ingredients for easy chocolate truffles at the library, then make them at home and join us on Zoom for a study break! Chat with other teens and get quick tutorials on the library’s helpful online homework tools that include live tutors, a writing lab, and eReference books. Learn to do online research that will actually impress your teachers!
Note: The ingredients for the truffles will be provided in sealed, individual serving-sized packages. Ingredients are: Nutella, Oreo cookies, and instant pudding mix.

Kumihimo: Japanese Friendship Bracelet Weaving

Target Audience: Tweens and Teens
Join the Des Moines Weavers and Spinners Guild for a hands-on art workshop as part of our Artist in Residence series.
This class will explore the Japanese braiding technique of Kumihimo. The technique can be used to create keychains, straps, necklaces, belts, and more.
Each participant must register to receive supplies. Participants will be able to pick up a supplies kit in the week before the class that contains a braiding disk, keychain, and yarn. Supplies you will have to provide are scissors and scotch tape (optional).
Come for the first hour to learn the basics, and stick around for the last half hour to practice more advanced techniques.
