Julie has been the Director of the Urbandale Public Library since June, 2011. Julie’s responsibilities keep her busy, but she loves to get out of her office and find new ways to organize the library. She has been known to transform a boring, cluttered file cabinet into a brilliant plant stand – complete with two beautiful potted plants. It is amazing!
Trish Dimond – Assistant Director
Trish has been the Assistant Director at the Urbandale Public Library since 1984. Trish heads up the technology in the library. In fact, she is responsible for barcoding books and automating the circulation system here. Without her, we’d still be searching for books on index cards in card catalogues – not online. So, the next time you search for, and find a book on the library catalogue, whisper a small ”Thank you Trish”. She’ll hear you.
Carmen Epstein – Youth Services Librarian
Carmen has done it all at the library…well, almost! Carmen started at the Urbandale Public Library in 2007 as the Adult Services Librarian and later became the Circulation Manager. Now you can find Carmen in the Youth Services area doing story times, making crafts, or helping patrons find the newest Wimpy Kid book.

Jeanette Andrews – Reference Services Librarian
Jeanette started at the Urbandale Library in the old library building in 1991 but left a couple of years later. She came back, they always do. Her return came the summer of 2000, just as the new building was opening. She jumped right in and made our Reference Department one of the greatest information hubs in the area. You can’t stump Jeanette…go ahead and ask her a difficult reference question. She’ll either know the answer off the top of her head or know just where to go to find it!
Susan Clemmensen – Audio Visual Librarian
Nobody has worked at the library longer than Susan! She has worked in 3 different Urbandale Library buildings, the current one being her favorite of course! In addition to making sure the library is stocked with everyone’s favorite movies and cds, Susan also manages the meeting room schedule. With over 1,500 meetings booked at the library each year, that is no small task!
Karen Smith – Technical Services Librarian
Karen has been the Technical Services Librarian at the Urbandale Library since 2001. You can always find her cataloging materials in her office…or out rescuing a stray kitten somewhere. (She loves cats)
Janine Bauer – Public Relations/Adult Program Coordinator
Janine has been the Public Relations/Adult Program Coordinator at the Urbandale Library since 2008. An even bigger pet lover than Karen, Janine’s favorite thing to do each year is plan the annual Urbandale Library Pet Show.
