Urbandale Public Library/Winter Reading Challenge

January 15 – February 29, 2024

The 2024 Winter Reading Challenge has ended. A grace period has been given for those that completed the challenge to pick up their prize by March 17. (A free book for ages 0-17 and a book sale voucher for adults 18+)

Join us for the 2024 Winter Reading Challenge! Everyone, birth through adult, can log 15 days of reading from January 15 – February 29 to complete the challenge. Participants ages 0 – 17 will win a classic book and winter-themed mini-badges buttons to keep, while adults ages 18+ will earn a voucher for our book sale and be entered into a prize drawing!

How to Participate

Step 1 : Register

  • Register at urbandalelibrary.beanstack.org to create your account.
    • You do not need to create a new account if you already made one during any of the Urbandale Public Library’s previous reading challenges. (Can’t remember your Beanstack password? Click hereNot sure of your Beanstack username? Click here.)
  • If you would prefer to fill out a paper log, you can grab one at the front or youth desk or download and print the copy below:

Step 2 : Track

  • Track every day you read between January 15 – February 29, 2024, with a paper log or through Beanstack online.
    • You can read whatever you’d like. Books, e-books, magazines, and comic books all count – and so does listening to an audiobook or being read to.
    • How long you read each day is up to you! Set your own goal.
  • Youth (ages 0-17)
    • Earn up to three mini-badge buttons as you track your progress! (Choose either a pin or a magnet for each mini-badge!)
    • After tracking 5 days of reading, you can stop by the Youth Area to pick up your first badge (available starting January 19). Do the same after 10 and 15 days. The more you read, the more you can collect (up to 3 per youth)!

Step 3 : Win!

  • Complete the Winter Reading Challenge to earn a prize.
  • Youth Prize (ages 0-17)
    • Go to the Youth Area and drop off your paper reading log. (If you used Beanstack you don’t need to drop off anything- just come in.) Then select a free classic book for completing the challenge and tracking 15 days of reading!
    • You must track your reading by February 29 to earn a free book.
    • A grace period will be given to pick up your book prize by March 17.
  • Adults Prize (ages 18+)
    • Go to the Front Desk and drop off your paper reading log. (If you used Beanstack you don’t need to drop off anything- just come in.) Then let the staff person know you are ready to pick up a Book Sale Voucher for tracking 15 days of reading!
    • You must track your reading by February 29 to earn a Book Sale Voucher and be included in the grand prize drawing.
    • A grace period will be given to pick up a Book Sale Voucher by March 17.
